"Enlighten" – The Sikh Coalition’s Library Project
In April 2007, the Sikh Coalition launched "Enlighten", its nationwide library project. The goal is to place a package of 10 books and 2 DVDs about Sikhs in every North American library.
NYC Schools Chancellor Responds to Sikhs
After a hate crime against a Sikh high school student in May, the Sikh Coalition released its “Hatred in the Hallways” report. In response, NYC Schools Chancellor Joel Klein met with Sikhs to discuss how to make schools safe for Sikh children.
The New York Times Publishes a Sikh Coalition Editorial on Education
An editorial penned by Sikh Coalition staff members appeared in the New York Times in September. The article highlighted the lack of protections for students against bias-based harassment in New York City schools.
Sikh Coalition Launches Youth Website
In September 2007, the Sikh Coalition launched Khalsakids.org – the only website devoted to teaching students about their rights as Sikh Americans. The site features videos, handouts and a discussion forum.
